Member Bios: Raymond Tizzard
Raymond Tizzard is one of Toronto’s most active professional trumpet players. He received his BMus (Education) and MM (Literature and Performance) from the University of Western Ontario , followed by studies at the Banff School of Fine Arts. He is currently a member of the National Ballet Orchestra, and has also been a member of the Canadian Opera Orchestra and the Esprit Orchestra. Ray is in great demand as a clinician and consultant and is a Faculty Member of the Interprovincial Music Camp.
In 1983, Ray co-founded the Hannaford Street Silver Band. He first served in the capacity of Artistic Co-ordinator and throughout the 1990’s served as Artistic Director. Under his artistic leadership many of the HSSB’s ongoing traditions were formed. These include the move to the St. Lawrence Centre, the production of 10 commercially available recordings and the commissioning of over 45 works by Canada’s finest composers. On July 1, 2000, Ray was appointed as the HSSB’s first Executive Director and in this capacity oversees the activities of both the HSSB and the Hannaford Youth Program.
Ray also serves as Managing Director of True North Brass, and as Assistant Orchestra Manager of the National Ballet Orchestra.
Ray resides in Sharon, Ontario with his wife, former National Ballet dancer Alexandra Auld, their three children, James, Christine, and Alexander, and two standard poodles, Penny and Abby.
